justmarriedexchangeThis is the FAQ for Just Married. If you have questions, please comment on this post and we will respond as soon as possible. Anonymous commenting is enabled. We have made these rules as comprehensive as possible, but reserve the right to make as-needed decisions if necessary.
A reminder: If you were auto-defaulted last year (that is, you did not click the default button and did not turn in a work by the deadline), you must create a gift fulfilling a request for the last round of the exchange before you will be allowed to participate in subsequent rounds.
Nominations
You may nominate up to 7 fandoms, 7 relationships per fandom, and 10 freeform tags.
Mods will approve nominations throughout the time range. Once your nominations have been approved, you will no longer be able to edit them. Clarification questions will be posted to this community. Mods may reject nominations if questions are not answered, or may edit nominations for formatting.
For relationship tags, please nominate in the format 'Character A/Character B' for romantic relationships and use 'Character A & Character B' for non-romantic relationships. You may nominate more than two characters in a relationship. Please disambiguate all nominated tags with "(Fandom Name)" at the end.
Freeform tags are for trope or situation matching. Examples include: arranged marriage, marriage of convenience, accidentally married, sedoretu, etc. Feel free to get creative but please aim for clarity. For example, “soulbond marriage” is ambiguous, “marriage with forced soulbonding” is clearer.
Please nominate only marriage tropes and situations, formatted with broad categories as specifid on the nominations post! Freeforms unrelated to marriage will be rejected.
Original Works are welcome. Please nominate under the Original Works fandom tag. If you have specific genders in mind, include those in your nomination. Example: "Female Soldier/Male Assassin (Original Work)."
Crossovers are welcome. Please nominate crossover relationships under the Crossover Fandom tag. List the character name followed by their canon. Example: “Tony Stark (MCU)/Bruce Wayne (DCU).” Crossover nominations that do not follow this format may be rejected.
Specific fandom notes: Based on feedback from last year: All Dragon Age nominations go under Dragon Age: All Media Types. All of the associated movies go under Marvel Cinematic Universe. All of the associated movies go under DC Extended Universe.

Please feel free either in the optional details field on AO3, or in a linked (unlocked!) letter, to give your creator more information about things you would like to see. These may include general likes or specific prompts.
When requesting podfic: A podfic on its own is a transformative work. Be mindful that for the fandoms and relationships you request podfic for, enough stories exist for your podficcer to find one they can get permission to record. For example, at this moment the MCU has 89 English works between 1500 and 2000 words tagged both "Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes" and "marriage," while Strunk & White's frequently required read The Elements of Style has no fic at all, let alone marriage-themed fic for Passive Voice/Split Infinitives.
Do Not Wants (DNWs) are things you do not want to see in the creation you receive. Please include them in the optional details field of your AO3 sign-up, clearly labelled as DNWs. Your creator is required to avoid DNWs written in your AO3 sign-up. DNWs that are only listed in a linked letter, and not in your AO3 sign-up, will not be binding for your creator.
Matching is OR. This means that you will be matched on 1 of your requested fandoms, and any 1 relationship and 1 freeform tag requested in that fandom, in any 1 of the media types (fanart, fanfic, or podfic) you requested for that fandom. Your creator does not have to include multiple relationships, freeforms, or media types in their creation.
Offers
You must offer a minimum of 4 unique fandoms (max 10), 1-10 relationships per fandom (or “any”), and 1-20 freeform tags (or “any”). You may double-offer fandoms, but at least 4 requests must be unique. You may offer fanart, fanfiction, podfic, or a combination of all three.
Matching is OR. This means that you may be matched to any 1 of your offered fandoms, and any 1 relationship and 1 freeform tag offered in that fandom, in any 1 of your offered media types (fanart, fanfic, or podfic) for that fandom.

Podfic should be a complete recording of 1500 words or 10 minutes in length. Gifts must be in one of a recipient’s requested fandoms, include one of their requested pairings, and feature one of their requested freeform tags. You do not need to write, draw, or podfic for the fandom, relationship or freeform you matched on.
In return, participants will receive a creation fulfilling one of their requests, with the same minimums required for fic, art, and podfic.
When you receive your assignment email, please contact mods quickly if the assignment doesn’t match any of your offers.
Gifts may not feature Do Not Wants explicitly stated in a recipient’s AO3 sign-up. If you have questions about your recipient’s DNWs, please contact the mods.
A note about the assignment due date: The assignment deadline is the deadline for complete works. Placeholder creations will not be considered complete. Placeholders may include: fic without an ending, fic with outline notes, obviously placeholder titles, etc. Recipients of placeholders may be sent to pinch hit. Please contact us ASAP if you think you need an extension, we may be able to work something out.
Creators are expected to remain anonymous until reveals. If you have questions for your recipient, please contact the mods. We will do our best to disguise any fandom-specific questions and forward them to your recipient (who may not respond - we can discuss this with you if that is the case). If you are fulfilling a podfic request, your AO3 post will remain anonymous with the rest of the collection until reveals. Since voices are inherently identifiable, you do not need to upload a version of your podfic without an intro.
Depending on how sign ups fall and how the matching algorithm runs, the mods may need to double assign creators to recipients. There may also be initial pinch hits for recipients whose requests were not able to be matched with a creator. Please see below for pinch hit details.

If you realize you need to default, please do so as early as possible. If you default before the deadline, you are not required to finish a gift for your recipient. If you default and then are defaulted on, you are not guaranteed a gift and you will not be sent out to pinch hit.
If you default after the deadline, you must create a gift fulfilling a request for the current round of the exchange before you will be allowed to participate in subsequent rounds.
Pinch Hits
Pinch hits will be posted to this community. To claim a pinch hit, comment on the post or e-mail the mods with your AO3 name and the number of the pinch hit. If you are the first person, the mods will respond to let you know that you have the pinch hit. Claimed pinch hits will be crossed through. This year we will leave the text for pinch hits up (behind the cut) so potential treaters have easier access to which recipients went to pinch hit.
Treats
“Extra” gifts, or treats, are welcome! You do not need to be signed up to post treats, and treats do not need to fulfill the minimum word count. To post a treat, visit the collection dashboard page, click “Post to Collection,” and fill out the form. Make sure to double-check the spelling of your recipient’s AO3 username.

For instance, if I pick just "political marriage" do I match on anyone who picks any of the other "political marriage - [extra info]" tags, or just people who picked that same tag that is just "political marriage" only? I hope that makes sense!
I'm just wondering since it seems like there are a lot of tags and I feel stronger about the ones I definitely don't want than the ones I definitely do.
