Creators have been revealed! Many thanks to all of this year's participants, with special thanks again to our pinch hitters.

At the beginning of the exchange, we received a question about the possibility of organizing freeform tags with broad category prefixes. Before we decided either way, we wanted to ask for feedback. Examples of tags are below.

If we change the tag style, it would mean either redoing the freeform tags as they exist now, or having all new freeform tags submitted next year instead of carrying over the way we did this year. It would also mean requiring nominators to change the way they submit freeform tags, and may slow down the nominations process if we have to edit tags manually. Additionally, categories would have to be decided on.

We can't promise that we will make this change, but we did want to gauge interest. If you have questions about how this would be implemented, we will try our best to answer, but our answer may be "we don't know yet, and would have to decide."

Examples:
A/B/O - Female Alpha Marries Female Omega
Arranged Marriage - mutual pining between spouses
Proposals - Joke proposal treated seriously
Interrupted weddings - Kidnapped at the altar

Please vote at this poll, and if you have additional questions or concerns, do let us know in the comments!

I voted yes, but my caveat is that I think organized freeforms will work better if it's an eternal freeform set up and that if we do it I would prefer you give us time to nominate all of our favorite ahead of time the way nonconathon did. I also wonder what you will do if someone suggests something that doesn't fit in any particular category.

I think, regardless of whether you do it that way, you should go through the tags and remove duplicates. Because there are a number of ideas that are duplicated two or three or four times, and so it would be easy for someone to be matchable but nobody would know because the prospective writer and recipient used different versions of the same idea.

Agreed! I always get anxious when signing up because of this. There are just too many tags to read all of them and find all of the ones synonymous to certain concepts.

Obviously slotting *every* freeform into a category would be difficult, but having *some* categories would definitely help, since browsing the freeforms as they are now is difficult. I think I may have nominated some things that turned out to be partly or wholly duplicate, simply because I wasn't searching under the right terms.

I voted no, for several reasons. One, I really liked getting to keep last year's freeform tagset from last year and just adding to it this year, and I would rather not start from scratch this year. Two, I think trying to figure out what fits in which category is really subjective and can often be more confusing than it is helpful. There's also a degree of mod interpretation there that can conflict with the original intent of the nominator. Three, in other exchanges with categorized freeforms, I've seen a lot of cases of tags getting combined in a way that conflicted with the nominators' intent, or combined without the nominators' input.
